Callous (Hard skin)

Callus is a thickened area of hard skin, usually on the ball of the foot and around the heel, caused by pressure and friction. A callus can be even more painful if it contains a corn (a central area of very hard callous which presses on nerve endings). Daily use of a foot dresser file or callous file can greatly reduce the amount of hard skin. Chiropody felt and Prolyne Technogel metatarsal pads used on the ball of the foot over the callous can be very helpful in reducing pressure, friction anbd pain. Insoles, orthotics and metatarsal pads can help to relieve foot pain. Where heels are effected heel pads and the use of foot creams are recommended.
